1963 NBA Finals

The 1963 NBA Finals was a best-of-seven series between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Celtics won the series four games to one. This was the first time that the Lakers had made it to the NBA Finals.

The Celtics were led by Bill Russell, who was in his sixth season with the team. Russell was named the Finals MVP. He averaged 18.6 points and 23.0 rebounds per game in the series.The Lakers were led by Jerry West, who was in his third season with the team. West averaged 30.8 points per game in the series, but it was not enough to lead his team to victory.

In Game 1, the Lakers took an early lead and held on to win by a score of 98-96. The Celtics won Game 2 by a score of 120-117 in overtime. The Lakers bounced back and won Game 3 by a score of 102-93. The Celtics then won the next three games to win the series.

Despite the loss, Jerry West was named the NBA’s MVP for the 1963-64 season. He averaged 27.8 points, 5.7 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game during the regular season. He was also named to the All-NBA First Team. Bill Russell was also named to the All-NBA First Team.

The 1963 Celtics are considered one of the greatest teams in NBA history. They went on to win the championship again in 1964 and 1965. The Lakers did not make it back to the Finals until 1972.
